On Apple devices, Citavi can only be used if you install Windows on your Mac.

Citavi under Linux

Under Linux, Citavi 3.4 can be run with Wine. It is not necessary to install Windows. Please note: the current version, Citavi 4.X, will not work on Linux.

Installing on a Mac Right now, Citavi runs only on Windows. However, you have a few different options if you want to use Citavi on your Mac. There are three third-party solutions (Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion, and Oracle VirtualBox) which let you run a real copy of Windows on your Mac.

Alternatives

For Linux and Mac, we recommend using alternative, free reference management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, Qiqqa, Colwiz, EndNote Basic, JabRef or BibDesk (for Mac only). Click here for an overview of various reference management programmes with their pros and cons.

Create an outline in Citavi. While you read, assign your sources, important quotations, and your own ideas to different sections. Refine your outline as you go. When it's time to write, you'll have everything at hand: all your references, quotations, and ideas.

Citavi lets me focus on what's essential: my research. The search and import possibilities save me a lot of time, and the Knowledge Organizer lets me easily structure my work. It's a very well thought-out product!
