These are all Mac operating systems, starting with the most recent. When a major new macOS is released, it gets a new name, such as macOS Catalina. As updates that change the macOS version number become available, this article is updated to show the latest version of that macOS.

If your Mac is using an earlier version of any Mac operating system, you should install the latest Apple software updates, which can include important security updates and updates for the apps that are installed by macOS, such as Safari, Books, Messages, Mail, Music, Calendar, and Photos.

Apple recently released Mavericks (Mac OS X 10.9), its latest operating system, which is available as a free upgrade. Mavericks offers many new features, including changes to the way the computer projects. If you use a Mac computer running Mavericks to project in your classroom, it is important that you review the following information to ensure that your image projects correctly.

First, here is what you need to know to project from a Mac laptop running any operating system. Every DCS classroom with a data projector has a VGA cable that may be used to connect a laptop to the projector. The VGA port on a laptop consists of three rows of five holes. All classrooms equipped with the Digital Classroom Podium and some Pixie and Crestron classrooms have HDMI inputs that may also be used to project from laptops. Mac laptops are equipped with a proprietary display port and do not have a VGA or HDMI port. Instead, you will need to purchase an adapter that allows you to connect one of these two cables to your laptop. Where possible, we recommend using a HDMI adapter. To see if your classroom has a data projector, search for the room and click on the 'Technology' tab. To see if your room also has a HDMI input, click on 'Classroom Features' and check 'Additional Items.'

Once you have determined which cable you will use, you can project in two different way. In 'Mirror Display' mode, the projector will display the same thing that appears on your laptop monitor. In 'Extended Desktop' mode, the projector acts as a second display, allowing you to drag windows from your laptop monitor to the projected image. New to Mavericks, the menu bar will now appear along the top of second monitor in extended mode. You can also now fill either screen with a window by dragging that window into one screen pressing the green maximize button on the top of that window.

Once you have determined the manner in which you would like to project, connect your laptop to the system using the cable provided and your adapter. On the system, select the button that corresponds with the cable you are using. Turn on your laptop. When your laptop has fully booted, if your laptop is still not projecting, unplug and plug the adapter back in to your laptop. Once your laptop is projecting, you are ready to adjust your settings. • Select 'System Preferences' from the pull-down menu.
• In the System Preferences window, select 'Displays.'
• Click on the 'Arrangement' tab.

• You will now have two windows: A 'Built-in Display' window will appear on your laptop window. A second window will appear on the projected image. The second window can be accessed by moving your mouse to the right off your laptop screen and on to the projected image.
• In the 'Built-in Display' window, select the 'Display' tab. Next to 'Resolution,' choose 'Best for Display.'
• In the second window appearing on the projected image, under the 'Display' tab, select 'scaled.' A list of resolutions will appear. As every laptop has a different optimal resolution, we recommend selecting different resolutions until you have achieved the desired image.

• In the pull-down menu, select 'System Preferences.'
• Select 'Displays.'
• Click on the 'Arrangement' tab.
• Check the 'Mirror Displays' check box in the lower left portion of the window.
• Select the 'Display' tab.
